Community Health Advisory Board (CHAB)

Community Health Advisory Board (CHAB)

The mission of the Community Health Advisory Board (CHAB) is to serve as an avenue for community input for IIMS program, service, and specific research project development by advocating for community-academic collaborations that address the health needs of South Texas. The CHAB consists of members who reside or work in the South Texas area. Current members represent various community sectors such as business, education, faith-based, healthcare, military, and local government.

Responsibilities

Meetings are held quarterly.  Each member is expected to serve on at least one special subcommittee per year. These special subcommittees may include the Community Engagement Small Project Grants Review and the Community Engagement Symposium Promotion committee. Time commitments will vary, however the minimum amount is approximately six hours per year.  Furthermore, members are specifically charged with:

  • Providing feedback and guidance to individuals or agencies interested in developing or enhancing a community-academic partnership which promotes the translation of science
  • Advocating for collaboration and resource integration for the development or enhancement of projects focused on improving the community’s health and well-being

Membership Benefits

The CHAB serves as a bridge between the UTHSA–IIMS and the South Texas community. The benefits of serving on the CHAB include networking, sharing of resources, and an increased awareness of local and regional efforts focused on improving the community’s health and well-being.
