[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]STOHN is a practice-based research network (PBRN) dedicated to developing a research infrastructure for generating practical and timely information to enhance the quality and efficacy of oral health care. STOHN members are practicing dentists and dental hygienists in South Texas who help to develop and implement dental research where it really matters \u2013 in their practices.<\/p>\n

Practitioners’ Approach to Oral Appliance Therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea and the Impact on Patients’ Outcomes (PAOSA) Study<\/h4>\n

Help advance Sleep Apnea research!<\/p>\n

The South Texas Oral Health Network (STOHN) is recruiting general dental practitioners for a new study evaluating the use of Oral Appliance Therapy as an option for managing Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). The study idea was generated by Dr. Rahma Mungia (STOHN Director and Associate Professor at UT Health San Antonio) and Dr. Therese Galang-Boquiren (Dipl. ABO, Dipl. ABDSM and Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago). This study is designed to understand practitioners\u2019 approach to oral appliance therapy for obstructive sleep apnea and the impact on patients’ outcomes (PAOSA). Oral Appliance wear compliance data will be collected via Dentitrac\u00ae microchips embedded on the sleep appliances. Data will be downloaded onto microchip readers\/ appliance docking stations which you will get to keep upon study completion. Sleep data will also be collected through the NightOwl\u2122 disposable home sleep test.\u00a0We believe this study will create opportunities for subsequent and targeted studies on sleep medicine and contribute to practice-based research that impacts real-world care. The study requires the practitioner to enroll up to 6 patients who are receiving a mandibular advancement device with compensation of $80.00 per enrolled patient.<\/p>\n
