Our mission\u00a0is to enhance UT Health San Antonio’s value and responsiveness to the community. To do so, our team works with our community partners to:<\/p>\n

  1. Increase the relevance and effectiveness of UT Health San Antonio for our citizen and practitioner communities<\/li>\n
  2. Increase the impact of UT Health San Antonio research<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. Connect researchers and community partners<\/li>\n
    2. Provide technical assistance to communities wishing to explore local health problems<\/li>\n
    3. Maintain practice-based research networks for studying health problems in community-based practice settings<\/li>\n
    4. Make small grants available to launch collaborations between the UT Health San Antonio and the community for research, education, or service<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Why engage communities?<\/h3>\n

      Translational research is a multidisciplinary form of science used to \u201ctranslate and move\u201d knowledge from basic bench science, to patient-based applications, and then out into clinical practice for the enhancement of population health and well-being.\u00a0 People often refer to \u201cT1,\u201d \u201cT2,\u201d \u201cT3,\u201d and \u201cT4\u201d when talking about translating scientific findings.\u00a0 Each of these \u201cT\u2019s\u201d or transitioning steps, is part of an important process as seen below.\u00a0Community Engagement\u00a0<\/strong>is vital for increasing the reach, effectiveness, uptake, implementation, and maintenance of clinical and translational research.<\/p>\n
