It is expected that most students will have a health professional degree (<em>e.g<\/em>., MD, DDS\/DMD, DVM, or BS in nursing and\/or allied health) or a BS\/BA, MS, or PhD degree with emphasis in a health-related discipline. The following general requirements will be applied:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicant should hold a medical, dental, masters and\/or baccalaureate\u00a0degree\u00a0from an accredited institution in the United States or an U.S. equivalent degree and training at an international institution. All transcripts from international institutions (including GPA) must be evaluated and submitted by an approved\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.naces.org\/members\"><strong>NACES member<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0foreign credentialing evaluation agency. The CBDS preferred agencies are: The Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc.\u00a0(ECE)\u00a0or the World Education Services, Inc.\u00a0(WES).<\/li>\n<li>Applicant possesses Grade Point Average\u00a0(GPA) no lower than a B (3.00 in a 4.00 system) in the last 60 hours of coursework for a BS\/BA degree or a GPA of at least 3.0 for applicants with a MS degree.<\/li>\n<li>Applicant achieved minimum score of 84 on the internet-based version of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), a band score of 7.0 on the Academic version of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or a minimum score of 115 on the Duolingo English Test for applicants from countries where English is not the native language.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All\u00a0required\u00a0information\u00a0must\u00a0be submitted for an applicant to be considered by the MSCI-TS Admissions Review Committee.\u00a0 Requests for an exemption to any of these general admission requirements should be addressed to the CBDS Program Director and sent directly to the CBDS Academic Coordinator.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Required Documentation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Completed and submitted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uthscsa.edu\/academics\/biomedical-sciences\/what-know-you-apply\">Graduate School for Biomedical Science (GSBS) online application<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Official transcripts\u00a0from\u00a0ALL\u00a0colleges and universities attended.<\/li>\n<li>Course by Course Translation of International\u00a0transcripts to include GPA and U.S. degree equivalency by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.naces.org\/members\">NACES member<\/a>\u00a0foreign credentialing evaluation agency (Preferred agencies: ECE or WES).<\/li>\n<li>Official TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores\u00a0taken within the past two (2) years for international applicants.<\/li>\n<li>Three (3) Letters of Recommendation\u00a0attesting to the applicant\u2019s readiness for graduate level studies in translational science. These letters should be uploaded to the Recommendation Form by the individual recommenders who will receive an email from the online application system (EMBARK) with a link to the Recommendation Form.\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Students from a GSBS graduate program\u00a0who have a Supervising Professor are required to submit one (1) of the three (3) letters from their Supervising Professor with a statement indicating the availability and approval of release time for the completion of the CBDS educational activities.<\/li>\n<li>Residents or fellows in an approved UT Health San Antonio residency or fellowship program\u00a0are required to submit one (1) of the three (3) letters from the departmental chair with a statement indicating the availability and approval of release time for the completion of the CBDS educational activities.<\/li>\n<li>UT Health San Antonio faculty and staff\u00a0are required to submit one of the three (3) letters from their authorized supervisor with a statement indicating the availability and approval of release time for the completion of the CBDS educational activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Statement of Purpose (a.k.a. Personal Statement)\u00a0(1-2 pages) that includes a brief description of the applicant\u2019s educational background.
