Autophagy: A Selectiive Eater That Protects the Brain
Presented by Zhenyu Yue, PhD
Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience, Aidekman Family Professor
Director, Basic and Translational Research in Movement Disorders

Autophagy is fundamental to the maintenance of cell homeostasis and neuroprotection through lysosome degradation. I will summarize our works in (1) the identification of autophagy genes and regulatory mechanism; (2) providing evidence for the selectivity of autophagy degradation and its specific cargo in nervous system; (3) characterization of protective function of neuronal and glial autophagy, when disrupted, contributes to the pathogenesis of major human neurodegenerative diseases.
