“Neuropsychiatry of Parkinson’s disease:
from bench to bedside”

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is traditionally regarded as a movement disorder. Non-motor symptoms have been recognized as significant contributors to disability at all stages of the illness. Behavioral and psychological (or neuropsychiatric) symptoms are frequent in PD, including anxiety, depression, apathy, psychosis, sleep, and impulse control disorders. Their pathogenesis in PD is complex, involving neurodegenerative, drug-related, and psychological mechanisms. Their management can be challenging and involves the combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches.
