{"id":48,"date":"2024-08-22T20:04:49","date_gmt":"2024-08-22T20:04:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iims.uthscsa.edu\/redes\/?p=48"},"modified":"2024-08-26T14:56:30","modified_gmt":"2024-08-26T14:56:30","slug":"redes-en-accion-unveils-new-psas-and-saludtoday-blog-to-improve-latino-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iims.uthscsa.edu\/redesenaccion\/2024\/08\/22\/redes-en-accion-unveils-new-psas-and-saludtoday-blog-to-improve-latino-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Redes En Acci\u00f3n unveils new PSAs and \u2018SaludToday\u2019 blog to improve Latino health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-49 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/redesenaccion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2024\/08\/item20091103_lg-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Scene from PSA, The Promise\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iims.uthscsa.edu\/redesenaccion\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2024\/08\/item20091103_lg-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/iims.uthscsa.edu\/redesenaccion\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2024\/08\/item20091103_lg.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 639px) 98vw, (max-width: 1199px) 64vw, 300px\" \/>November 03, 2009. <\/strong><em>Redes En Acci\u00f3n<\/em> today unveiled six new public service announcements and is also promoting a new Latino health blog and Web site, SaludToday, all geared to promoting healthier lifestyles among Latinos.<\/p>\n<p>The six PSAs, which can be <a href=\"\/psa.html\">viewed<\/a> on our PSA Web page and also via the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saludtoday.com\/\">SaludToday<\/a> Web site, aim to educate Latinos about the importance of early screening in detecting breast, cervical and colorectal cancers.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>SaludToday<\/em> Web site, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saludtoday.com\/\">www.SaludToday.com<\/a>, is an online Latino health forum that uses a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saludtoday.com\/blog\">blog<\/a> that simultaneously feeds <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/SaludToday\/160946931268\">Facebook<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/saludtoday\">Twitter<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/user\/SaludToday\">YouTube<\/a> pages and features videos, role model stories and the capability for people to share their own health success stories. This site is administered by the Institute for Health Promotion Research (IHPR) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio under the direction of Dr. Amelie Ramirez, which also administers the <em>Redes En Acci\u00f3n<\/em> program.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Redes<\/em> outreach effort aims to catalyze Latino families, community leaders and health researchers to reduce and prevent health disparities \u2013 differences in Latinos\u2019 disproportionate burden of disease compared to non-Hispanic whites.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLatinos are at a disadvantage when it comes to being in good health, so we wanted to raise awareness about disparities and prompt behavioral changes to improve Latino health nationwide,\u201d said <em>Redes<\/em> Principal Investigator Amelie G. Ramirez, Dr.P.H.<\/p>\n<p>SaludToday elements include:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saludtoday.com\/blog\">Latino Health Blog<\/a>. The SaludToday blog gathers the latest news, videos and research on a variety of Latino health topics, such as cancer, obesity and cultural issues. The blog simultaneously feeds <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/SaludToday\/160946931268\">Facebook<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/saludtoday\">Twitter<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/user\/SaludToday\">YouTube<\/a> pages to feature stories about Latino life and health, from Latino cancer research to exercise interventions for Latino youths to unique stories of Latinos who\u2019ve quit smoking. Sign up to receive SaludToday blog feeds and to comment on videos and posts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saludtoday.com\/psas.php\">PSA Videos<\/a>. SaludToday also features six new public service announcements (PSAs) produced by <em>Redes En Acci\u00f3n<\/em> in both English and Spanish. The culturally relevant PSAs show the benefits of preventative screening for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer among Latinos. Also featured are four other PSAs previously developed by <em>Redes<\/em> that tout clinical trial participation among Latinos. In the coming weeks, the new PSAs also will be distributed to TV stations across the country.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saludtoday.com\/stories.php\">Sharing Stories<\/a>. SaludToday offers a variety of stories on Latinos who have overcome obstacles to beat disease or improve their health. These stories are featured on the SaludToday Web site and blog. SaludToday also offers people the capacity to post their own photos and stories, receive their blog feeds, and vote in health polls.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saludtoday.com\/resources.php\">Latino Health Resources<\/a>. SaludToday also aims to link Latinos with the latest information and resources on health.
