    Dr. Cervando Martinez is the director of the Psychiatry PBRN in addition to being the Professor of Psychiatry and Family Practice at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He has an interest in the treatment of chronic and severe mental disorders in the community. Dr. Martinez was part of the team that developed the Regional Academic Health Center of UTHSCSA.

  • Stephen D. Gelfond, MD is a past president of the Bexar County Medical Society and Bexar County Psychiatric Society, Distinguished Life Fellow of the APA and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Medicine. Dr. Gelfond is a founding and Executive Committee member of the South Texas Psychiatric PBRN.

    Melissa Deuter M.D is currently a private psychiatrist in San Antonio, Texas.  She graduated from the University Of Arkansas College Of Medicine.  Dr. Deuter has served as the President of the South Bexar Psychiatric Society in 2009 and is currently on the Executive Committee for the South Texas Psychiatric PBRN.

    Ricardo Salazar MD is a founding and Executive Committee member of the South Texas Psychiatric PBRN. Dr. Salazar received his MD from the Pontificia Bolivariana University School of Medicine in Colombia. He is an Assistant Professor for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and an Adult and Geriatric Psychiatrist with particular interest between the interface of psychiatry and other medical specialties, cognition, catatonia, dementias, as well as mood and anxiety disorders.

  • Jennifer Daniels, RA, BA  - PBRN Coordinator facilitates the South Texas Psychiatric Practice-Based Research Network and the Residency Research Network of Texas (RRNeT). She is a credentialed Research Associate with University Health System with the Department of Medicine/Infectious Diseases. She maintains close communication and relationships with network members, providers and advisory boards to provide them with education and training; research and technical support, including project development and data analysis; and communication and dissemination assistance on various research projects. She attended the University of California at Santa Cruz and the University of Texas at San Antonio where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a Minor in Women’s Studies, and she is currently in pursuit of a Master of Public Administration at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She has been involved with healthcare, both in private practices and insurance companies. She is interested in research that relates to family violence, substance abuse, mental health, and sociological factors that affect underserved populations  210-562-5653
