Don McGeary, PhD
UT Health San Antonio
Dr. Don McGeary is the director for South Texas Psychiatric PBRN. He is Vice Chair for Research and Professor with Tenure in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. He maintains joint institutional appointments as Associate Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and as a Research Health Scientist at the South Texas VA. As a researcher, Dr. McGeary is currently the Principal Investigator of five active, federally funded, multisite clinical trials investigating non-pharmacological interventions for chronic pain and the influence of these interventions on persistent opioid use. He is a nationally recognized subject matter expert in chronic pain management in the military with invited presentations at the NIH, multiple universities, national professional organizations and state organizations in Texas. Clinically, he sees patients through the Pain Consultants Clinic with the UT Medicine System in San Antonio. He trains multiple predoctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows. Dr. McGeary is board-certified in Clinical Health Psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology. Starting in 2019, he was appointed as the Programmatic Chair for the Chronic Pain Management Research Program (run by Dr. Hank Nothnagel, CDMRP) and is a regular reviewer on four NIH grant review panels covering research on pain, aging, communication, and training. He is Vice Chair for the UTHSCSA Institutional Review Board. Notably, he is the first CSR&D (VA) funded investigator of cannabis derivative products (delta-9-THC, CBD, and combination; in collaboration with Dr. Cyril D’Souza) for diabetic neuropathy in veterans.
Stephen D. Gelfond, MD

Dr. Stephen D. Gelfond is a past president of the Bexar County Medical Society and Bexar County Psychiatric Society, Distinguished Life Fellow of the APA and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Medicine. Dr. Gelfond is a founding and Executive Committee member of the South Texas Psychiatric PBRN.
Melissa Deuter, MD

Dr. Melissa Deuter is currently a private psychiatrist in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from the University Of Arkansas College Of Medicine. Dr. Deuter has served as the President of the South Bexar Psychiatric Society in 2009 and is currently on the Executive Committee for the South Texas Psychiatric PBRN.
