Overview
The Certificate in Cancer Prevention (CCP) provides a unique niche training experience, designed to provide students with a formal introduction into the advancement of all levels of science for the prevention of cancer. The CCP program will educate students on how to integrate themselves into interdisciplinary investigative teams for the conduct of cancer prevention research within culturally diverse settings. The goal of this program is to provide graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, staff, and other health care professionals with formal education in the essential components of the science of cancer prevention.
The Certificate in Cancer Prevention is designed to provide an academic distinction in Cancer Prevention and Control. The certificate is offered to those post-baccalaureate individuals who may be seeking a career in population research in the areas of cancer prevention and survivorship. Holders of the certificate may be interested in staff positions in academic cancer centers, state and local health departments, cancer registries, hospitals, and cancer treatment centers.
The specific aims of the Graduate Certificate in Cancer Prevention Program are to:
- Support the intellectual environment at UT Health San Antonio for clinical and translational science.
- Provide fundamental curricular activities in translational science to UT Health San Antonio students, postdoctoral trainees, clinical residents and fellows, and faculty from the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Allied Health, and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences as well as from local organizations that are partnered with UT Health San Antonio.
Governance
Oversight for the routine operations and implementation of the Certificate in Cancer Prevention Program will be provided by the Master of Science in Clinical Investigation and Translational Science (MSCI-TS) Program and the corresponding MSCI-TS Committee on Graduate Studies (COGS).
